As far as I know, a person's face must be uncovered here in Canada when immigrants become Canadian citizens and for their driver's licence. The CBC reports that the Supreme Court’s decision sided with an appeal judge, who valued the right to a fair trial above the niqab wearer’s religious rights. (Read more) As a country that is very multi-cultural, has been since the onset of Confederation, we are constantly reminded to be tolerant of others beliefs, customs, et al. So how would that notion possibly impede/infringe in judicial lights? [Catch 22] In a court of Law..."We have the RIGHT to face an accuser" BUT, what if same said law demands that, in order to 'face our accusers', the accused must forego traditional customs - such as wearing a 'face covering' aka 'niqab' to adhere to COUNTRY laws?
